Remote Drum Lessons - 45 minutes

Filter

Rhythm is the foundation of drumming and we teach everything from basic beats to advanced rhythmic concepts. Private drum lessons are as unique as each individual drummer so we focus on helping a developing drummer meet their goals, from studying a specific drummer and their techniques to preparing for band auditions as the lead drummer. Pick up the sticks and let's get rocking!

Inspired Approach to Drum lessons

Our approach to private drum lessons focuses on getting students playing real songs as quickly as possible which keeps them engaged and interested in practicing between lessons. We use rock and other popular genres as a springboard to broader musical concepts, so students learn drum playing techniques, rhythms, styles and music theory as it applies in real playing situations. Our lessons are meant to fill a student with a continuous 'inner' beat that has them grabbing for their sticks, or whatever else they can get a hold of to rap out that rhythm wherever they may be.

We offer 30 or 45 minute lesson durations for a one-time fee as well as ongoing weekly lessons scheduled at the same time with the same teacher (School of Rock will provide a substitute when a student's regular teacher is away due to touring, gigs, vacation or illness). Weekly lessons scheduled as ongoing require an enrollment plan that is billed monthly. Ongoing lessons can also be combined with a rehearsal program.

Playing Drums With a Band: combining private lessons with classes or rehearsals

Students that are interested in applying the skills learned in drum lessons as part of a band, should check out our Rookies Program, Rock 101 Program or the Performance Program. Adults can look into our Grad School Program.

  • The Rookies Program is appropriate for young students around 6 or 7 years old.

  • The Rock 101 Program is appropriate for beginner drummers around ages 8-10 years old.

  • The Performance Program is appropriate for intermediate and advanced drummers between the ages of 8 and 18 years old.

  • The Grad School Program is appropriate for anyone over the age of 18 whether you are an experienced musician looking to get back on stage or just learning for the first time.

All programs combine weekly private drum lessons with a weekly rehearsal, giving students the opportunity to perform with a band and learn how to work with the band for an integrated sound. Such programs give the student the added benefit of being able to apply their drum skills and knowledge in a band with their peers!

-Rookies Program

For young students around 6 or 7 years old interested in learning music, but unsure about where to begin, our Rookies Program may be the right fit. This class teaches the basics of music and allows students to try out various instruments.

-Rock 101 for drummers

School of Rock is a journey, not a destination! That journey begins in our Rock 101 program, where students get the full benefits of our unique performance-based instruction.

  • The Rock 101 program includes a weekly 30 or 45-minute individual guitar lesson with one of our professional musician instructors and a weekly 90-minute group rehearsal. Our Rock 101 directors specialize in working with younger students and typically play along with the kids.

  • All of our drum students begin by learning about the drum kit and its many components. They are encouraged to hit each drum and cymbal and familiarize themselves with the sound each one makes. Our instructors explain what each drum contributes to the overall sound of the band.

  • Once our drum students have been introduced to the kit, they beginning working on basic rudiments -- the rhythmic patterns that will form the backbone of their drumming. Those basic patterns slowly morph into the drum beats used in the student's Rock 101 song and before they know it, the kids are playing the songs with other students!

  • Our drum instructors use THE SONG AS A LESSON, introducing the student to concepts like time signatures and song structure for the first time. Drum students learn how to count measures and connect one section of a song with the other by executing drum fills.

  • Once they have learned a few songs, our drum students begin working to master their advanced rudiments.

After a few weeks in Rock 101, most students are ready for the challenge of our performance program and are encouraged to take part in a show!

-Performance Program for drummers

The Performance Program is designed for kids who know the basics of how to play their instrument and are ready to take it to the stage.
